Thanks for stopping by…

As you probably know by now, my name is Jeremy. I am an avid learner and collector of knowledge. This site is a collection of both professional and personal pursuits in problem solving and understanding. The projects on this site are the results of many hours spent learning and exploring computer programming, art, science and music.

A lot of hacking…

I started programming around 2004 when an animation project required a more algorithmic visual aesthetic. I turned to languages like Actionscript and Processing to create visualizations that would be nearly impossible without the aid of custom software. The more code I wrote, the more I wanted to know. Soon I was learning about application frameworks and networking. I began to explore new languages and new areas of interest. Today I understand that it the applied nature of programming that so compels me to continue.

A little music…

Sound and music have always been an important input for me. I spent years recording anything and everything that I thought had an interesting sound. In 2002, I opened a small analog recording studio and, along with my own creations, recorded many local musicians and bands. Over time the studio became less and less analog and more digital. It was through music that I found computing. The studio has since closed, however I continue to make music. When a creation seems “finished” I publish it to Sound Cloud.

A little blogging…

I’ve been writing a blog called “makemachine” for almost two years now. Through makemachine I am able to share the gritty details of my experiments in programming. Many of the articles I’ve written are focussed on music and sound programming. makemachine has allowed me to meet people all over the world and even to collaborate with some of them.
